News: Astrometry.net and WCS2KML

David Hogg in his latest blog entry, gives an idea of what the GoogleSky team is currently thinking about: new SDSS imagery, Astronomy Picture of the Day, etc... The Google guys are interested in Astrometry.net, a revolutionary application that will allow one to upload a picture of the sky (provided it is not too small and has some reference stars in it, unlike some Hubble images) and "solve" it for its position on the sky, returning a correct WCS (World Coordinate System) image that can then we converted to KML using the tools the Google team just released!
